Start out slow, pick a steady pace,
who knows what you will face,
enjoy the cool autumn air,
bring a shirt or sweater to wear,
it's a long hill to ascend,
with surprises around each bend.
A few rock steps and an old logging road,
pack what need and keep a light load,
with views that will make you gasp,
take in all that you can grasp,
as you hike from west to east,
on the best trail in the southeast.
At the top, stretch out take a snooze,
lay back on a rock and take off your shoes,
the thin air and bright sun will keep you warm,
a 1930 shelter awaits if caught in a storm,
spend some time on the mountain top,
it's only a 2 miles down to a food shop.
